Children's Court Project

Case Profile 1

The Alliance helped a 14-year-old boy who had been living with an abusive foster parent for six years. The boy and several neighbors had repeatedly called the Department of Children and Family Services for help but the Department failed to act. The Alliance immediately obtained a court order that removed the boy from the abusive home and worked with a local family to obtain a foster care license. The boy had also fallen behind in school. The Alliance worked to have the boy placed in the new family's home and helped him get the special tutoring he needed to catch up in school.

Case Profile 2

The Department of Children and Family Services placed a two-year-old girl in foster care with the child's aunt. After visiting the child, a Department social worker discovered the girl's teeth were badly decayed. However, Medi-Cal refused to pay for dental treatment. The Alliance intervened, contacted Medi-Cal, worked with the child's social worker, and secured a court order requiring Medi-Cal to pay for a pediatric dentist.
